See the Possibilities with Younger Eyes

As you get older, you may notice signs of aging developing around your eyes. Heights Laser Centre offers several options to address these concerns, including non-surgical treatment with BOTOX® and dermal fillers to improve contour and shape. However, if you have drooping, sagging skin around your eyes, you may be a better candidate for eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), which can effectively eliminate these more severe signs of aging.

The purpose of eyelid surgery is to adjust the position of the eyelids, open up the eyes, and bring more light into the area. Surgery helps Vancouver patients appear refreshed and alert in a natural-looking way. The procedure tightens, lifts, and removes excess skin, yielding a smoother and more youthful appearance.

Visiting Our Medical Spa

When you arrive for your initial consultation, Dr. Kherani’s warm and welcoming staff will greet you and help you complete any initial administrative steps for your appointment. You will then meet with Dr. Kherani to discuss your aesthetic goals.

Dr. Kherani spends extensive time in consultation with Vancouver patients. During your visit, she will conduct a comprehensive examination, including an evaluation of the skin and features around your eyes. If you are a good candidate for eyelid surgery, she will describe the procedure and outline a surgical plan based on your individual needs. She may also recommend that you receive BOTOX® or other facial fillers in combination with eyelid surgery for the best outcome possible.

What to Expect with Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid surgery usually takes less than an hour, and you should be able to go home on the same day. You will receive either local anesthesia or IV sedation so that you can be comfortable throughout the procedure. During your surgery, Dr. Kherani will skillfully remove excess skin around your eyes to give you a more youthful and open appearance.

What People Really Want to Know about Eyelid Surgery

How long is the recovery?

Recuperation takes about two weeks including time away from work. During this period, Dr. Kherani recommends avoiding high-impact activities, such as lifting, bending, working out, and swimming. Vancouver patients should also limit extended exposure to the sun as they heal.

Is eyelid surgery painful?

Patient comfort is a top priority with Dr. Kherani. In addition to oral and intravenous sedation, she offers a topical anesthetic for patients who have an aversion to needles. This helps numb the area prior to delivering local anesthesia.

Can I expect bruising or swelling after eyelid surgery?

You can expect bruising and swelling for the first few days. You can minimize these symptoms with the right post-operative care, including icing your eyes after surgery.

How long will the benefits of treatment last?

The excess skin that eyelid surgery removes will be gone permanently. If you receive BOTOX® or other dermal fillers as part of your care, you should enjoy their effects for several months before you need to return for retreatment.

After Eyelid Surgery: Recuperation and Results

Dr. Kherani tells her Vancouver patients that post-operative care is essential to a good long-term outcome. Her three main guidelines are:

  1. Get plenty of rest
  2. Ice your eyes for 72 hours after surgery. Applying ice throughout the first week can also help
  3. Keep your head elevated while in bed

Within one week of your procedure, you will have a follow-up appointment with Dr. Kherani. She will examine the surgical sites to ensure that they are healing properly and will remove your sutures.

Your recovery should be complete within about two weeks. At this point, the sagging skin that had previously aged your eyes will be gone, and you should have a more open, youthful appearance.
