As you get older, you may be concerned about the signs of aging developing around your eyes. Heights
Laser Centre offers several options to address these concerns, including non-surgical treatment with
BOTOX and dermal fillers to improve contour and shape. However, if you have drooping, sagging skin
around your eyes, you may be a better candidate for eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), which can
effectively eliminate these more severe signs of aging.
The purpose of BC eyelid surgery is to adjust the position of the eyelids, open up the eyes, and bring
more light into the area. Surgery helps you appear refreshed and alert in a natural-looking way. The
procedure tightens, lifts, and removes excess skin, yielding a smoother and more youthful
appearance.
Your First Visit
When you arrive for your initial consultation, Dr. Kherani’s warm and welcoming staff will greet you
and help you complete any initial administrative steps for your appointment. You will then meet with
Dr. Kherani to discuss your aesthetic goals.
Dr. Kherani spends extensive time in consultation with Vancouver patients. During your visit, she
will conduct a comprehensive examination, including an evaluation of the skin and features around
your eyes. If you are a good candidate, she will describe the procedure and outline a surgical plan
based on your individual needs. You’ll receive information on possible complications. She may
also recommend that you receive BOTOX or other facial fillers in combination with surgery for the
best outcome possible.
Am I a Good Candidate for Eyelid Surgery Burnaby?
Just because you want to have younger looking eyes, doesn’t mean you’ll qualify for this procedure. To be
considered for this surgery, Vancouver patients must:
Be in good physical and mental health
Not use nicotine products, such as cigarettes, e-cigarettes, chewing tobacco, and cigars.
Exhibit an understanding of realistic results and goals
Be free from serious eye conditions
It is also important to remember that sagging and drooping of the upper eyelids may not be due to the
eyelids themselves, but instead may be caused by the relaxation of skin in the forehead and eyebrow
areas. If Dr. Kherani finds this to be true during your appointment, she may recommend a different plan
so you will be able to get the results you want.
Please note that there is a small fee for
the initial consultation for eyelid surgery with Dr. Kherani.
What to Expect with Eyelid Surgery
The surgery usually takes less than an hour, and you should be able to go home on the
same day. You will receive either local anesthesia or IV sedation so that you can be comfortable throughout
the outpatient procedure.
Depending on your specific needs, Dr. Kherani can target the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. At
this time, we don’t offer double eyelid surgery.
Upper Eyelid Surgery
An upper eyelid surgery is performed for British Columbia patients who have upper eyelids that droop. Men
and women present with different degrees of eyelid drooping. Some have mild drooping, which makes them
look older than they actually are and appear extremely exhausted. Others have eyelids that droop
excessively, causing their vision to be obstructed. Regardless of how severely your eyelids droop, Dr.
Kherani has the skill and knowledge needed to provide you with just the right amount of correction, so
you get the cosmetic surgery results you want and need.
During upper lid surgery, Dr. Kherani will make tiny incisions within the natural crease of your upper
lid. To eliminate the excessive drooping you have been experiencing, Dr. Kherani will then use her
artistic skill to remove the excess fat and skin from your eyelid. Once the appropriate amount has been
excised, she will then carefully reattach the remaining skin. The best thing about the tiny incision Dr.
Kherani uses is that there will be no telltale scars for the world to see. You’ll have better vision,
and more rested, younger-looking eyes and no one will know why – unless you choose to tell them!
Lower Eyelid Surgery
A lower eyelid surgery, or lower eyelid blepharoplasty, helps Vancouver men and women find relief from
under eye problems, such as puffiness, dark circles, or drooping lower eyelids that have pulled away
from the eye. One way this differs from an upper eyelid procedure is that there are several techniques
Dr. Kherani can use to perform the cosmetic surgery procedure. Because every surgery is tailored to your
specific needs, Dr. Kherani can remove fat from the under eye area if you are dealing with excessive
puffiness, or she can transfer fat to the area if you suffer from deep under eye circles.
During a lower lid surgery, Dr. Kherani will make a small incision below the lower eyelashes. She will
then remove loose skin and fat, redistribute existing fat, or transfer fat to the under eye area –
depending on the needs of her patient. This gives patients a brighter, younger-looking appearance they
don’t want to hide.
After Eyelid Cosmetic Surgery: Recuperation and Results
Dr. Kherani believes that post-operative care is essential to a good long-term outcome. Her three main
guidelines are:
Get plenty of rest
Ice your eyes for 72 hours after surgery. Applying ice throughout the first week can also help
Keep your head elevated while in bed
Recuperation takes about two weeks including time away from work. At this point, the sagging skin that
had previously aged your eyes will be gone, and you should have a more open, youthful appearance. During
this period, Dr. Kherani recommends avoiding high-impact activities, such as lifting, bending, working
out, and swimming. You should also limit extended exposure to the sun as you heal.

Eyelid Surgery FAQ
Is eyelid surgery painful?
Your comfort is a top priority with Dr. Kherani, your surgeon in Burnaby BC. In addition
to oral and intravenous sedation, she offers a topical anesthetic to those who have an
aversion to needles. This helps numb the area prior to delivering local anesthesia. Patient
safety is our primary concern with all of the cosmetic procedures we offer.
Can I expect bruising or swelling after blepharoplasty?
You can expect bruising and swelling for the first few days. You can minimize these
symptoms with the right post-operative care, including icing your eyes after surgery.
How long will the benefits of treatment last?
The excess skin removed will be gone permanently following this common plastic surgery
procedure performed in British Columbia. If you receive BOTOX or other dermal fillers as
part of your care, you should enjoy their effects for several months before you need to
return for retreatment.
