Upper Eyelid Surgery
Upper eyelid surgery corrects drooping upper eyelids. Some patients have mild drooping, which makes them look tired and older than they are. Others have severe drooping that causes obstructed vision. No matter the severity, Dr. Femida Kherani has the skill and knowledge to provide you with the right amount of correction to achieve the desired results.
During upper lid surgery, Dr. Kherani makes tiny incisions within the natural crease of the upper lid. She then uses her artistic and surgical skills to remove excess fat and skin from your eyelid. Once the appropriate amount has been excised, she carefully reattaches the remaining skin.
The tiny incisions Dr. Kherani uses mean there will be no telltale scars for the world. You’ll have improved vision and refreshed, younger-looking eyes, and no one will know you’ve had surgery—unless you choose to tell them!
Lower Eyelid Surgery
A lower eyelid surgery, or lower blepharoplasty, allows women and men to experience relief from under-eye issues, such as puffiness, dark circles, or drooping lower eyelids that have pulled away from the eye. Dr. Kherani can use several techniques to perform this procedure to tailor it to your specific needs. If you’re dealing with excessive puffiness, Dr. Kherani can remove fat from the under-eye area, or she can transfer fat to the area if you suffer from deep under-eye circles.
During lower lid surgery, Dr. Kherani makes a small incision below the lower eyelashes. Depending on your needs, she removes loose skin and fat, redistributes existing fat, or transfers fat to the under-eye area for a rejuvenated, more youthful appearance.
The combined expertise of Dr. Jaffer and Dr. Kherani enables Heights Laser Centre to provide an unmatched level of care, where patient safety and cutting-edge treatments go hand-in-hand for superior aesthetic outcomes.
Credentials You Can Trust
Am I a Good Candidate for Eyelid Surgery?
To be considered a candidate for this surgery, you must:
- Be in good physical and mental health
- Not use nicotine products, such as cigarettes, e-cigarettes, chewing tobacco, or cigars
- Exhibit an understanding of realistic results and goals
- Be free from serious eye conditions
It’s also important to understand that the eyelids themselves do not always cause drooping upper eyelids. Instead, excess or relaxed skin in the forehead and eyebrow areas may create the issue. If Dr. Kherani finds this to be the case during your consultation, she may recommend a different plan to allow you to achieve the desired results.
Your First Visit
When you arrive for your initial consultation, Dr. Kherani’s warm and welcoming staff will greet you and help you complete any initial administrative steps for your appointment. You will then meet with Dr. Kherani to discuss your aesthetic goals.
Dr. Kherani spends extensive time in consultation with her patients. During your visit, she will conduct a comprehensive examination, including an evaluation of the skin and features around your eyes. If you are a good candidate, she will explain the procedure and outline a surgical plan based on your needs. She may also recommend BOTOX COSMETIC® or dermal fillers in conjunction with surgery for optimal results.
Please note that there is a $250 fee for the initial consultation for eyelid surgery with Dr. Kherani.
What To Expect From Eyelid Surgery
The surgery typically takes less than an hour, and you can return home the same day. You will receive either local anesthesia or IV sedation for your comfort throughout the procedure.
Depending on your needs, Dr. Kherani can target the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. She does not currently offer double eyelid surgery.
After Eyelid Cosmetic Surgery: Recuperation & Results
Dr. Kherani believes that careful postoperative care is essential to excellent results. Her 3 main guidelines are:
- Get plenty of rest.
- Ice your eyes regularly for 72 hours after surgery. Applying ice throughout the first week can also help.
- Keep your head elevated while in bed.
While you recover, Dr. Kherani recommends avoiding high-impact activities, such as lifting, bending, working out, and swimming. You should also limit extended exposure to the sun as you heal.
Recuperation takes about 2 weeks, including time away from work. After this recovery period, you’ll notice a significant reduction in the sagging skin around your eyes, revealing a fresher, more vibrant appearance.
Some patients choose to enhance their recovery with a quick Glacial® fx treatment, which uses cooling, calming technology to reduce swelling and inflammation.
Eyelid Surgery FAQ
Is eyelid surgery painful?
Your comfort is Dr. Kherani’s priority. In addition to oral and intravenous sedation, she offers a topical anesthetic to those who have an aversion to needles. This helps numb the area before local anesthesia is delivered.
Can I expect bruising or swelling after blepharoplasty?
Expect bruising and swelling for the first few days. You can minimize these symptoms with proper postoperative care, including icing your eyes after surgery.
How long will the benefits of treatment last?
The excess skin removed during eyelid surgery will be gone permanently. If you receive BOTOX or dermal fillers as part of your care, you can expect to enjoy their effects for several months before returning for touch-up treatment.
