Chemical Peels can be used to help both men and women reduce common surface issues like lines, wrinkles,
age spots, uneven skin pigmentation and brown spots. Glycolic peels can also work for anyone wanting to
treat acne and renew their skin.
There are different types of Chemical Peels boasting active ingredients that vary in strength–the
stronger the chemical peel, the deeper into the surface of the skin it works, and also, the longer the
recovery. Chemical Peels remove that damaged outer layer of skin to reveal the fresh, new skin beneath
and it can also stimulate your bodies own production of collagen which can enhance skin firmness and
improve skin texture.
The formulations that you’ll receive have been developed by molecular biologists, biophysicists,
dermatologists and plastic surgeons. They have been rigorously tested to prove their safety and
effectiveness. In fact, numerous studies have shown that the therapeutic ingredients in our formulations
can dramatically resolve complexion problems for healthy skin.
A moderate to significant improvement in melasma
(hyperpigmentation) was achieved in patients with darker skin, who experienced no adverse effects to
their overall pigmentation, as reported in the Journal of Cutaneous and Aesthetic Surgery.
Hyaluronic acid and collagen levels were found to noticeably increase, resulting in a remodeling of
the skin at a cellular level, as reported in Dermatologic Surgery, the journal of the American
Society for Dermatologic Surgery.
A significant reduction in fine lines and wrinkles was reported by female patients between the ages
of 35 and 60 years old in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology.
How Glycolic Peel Treatments Work
Glycolic peel treatments at our Burnaby medical spa provide skin care that focuses on resurfacing and
renewing the skin cells. Glycolic peels safely remove a micro thin top layer of skin and are used to
treat acne prone skin, fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, and discoloration. A glycolic treatment will
increase circulation to the skin, loosen oil and dirt that builds up in the pores, minimize the
appearance of acne and stimulate the production of collagen.
A peel can help bring back a healthy and revitalized glow and it can improve the overall texture and
firmness of your complexion. These peels are a crucial part of your skin care regimen, as they exfoliate
sun damage and assist with rehydration. They also anti-inflammatory properties.

What to Expect with Glycolic Peel Treatments
Glycolic peels are easily done, typically last 15 minutes, and require no down time. A
special formula of glycolic acids is brushed onto the skin. The strength of the formula can be tailored to
meet your specific goals. The glycolic acid is left on the skin for a certain amount of time; the duration
of the peel affects its strength. There may be a slight stinging sensation. Vancouver patients will often
notice that their skin is smoother and has a better tone even after one treatment, but best results are seen
after a series of treatments three to four weeks apart. This is particularly true for darker blemishes and
more severe concerns. For optimum results, glycolic treatments must be followed with appropriate home
skincare.
You’ll likely find that this treatment plan is most effective in achieving the results you want. In
addition to the immediate improvements you’ll see and feel following every session, you’ll also find
that your skin gets better and better as the days pass. This time is necessary to allow your skin to
rebuild itself at the cellular level with boosted levels of collagen and hyaluronic acid, making it
healthy, stronger and more youthful.

Chemical Peels Burnaby FAQ
What is a chemical peel?
Chemical peels are formulations based on therapeutic acids that remove the uppermost
layers of skin. It is a form of exfoliation. At this time, we don’t offer formulations
with salicylic acid, alpha hydroxy acids or lactic acid. We only offer glycolic peels.
Is chemical peel good for skin?
When performed by experienced medical aestheticians like our team members, this
procedure can restore the health and youthful beauty of your skin by doing the
following:
treat sun damaged skin
remove impurities
erase pigmentation and blemishes
improve acne
improve overall texture
boost the rate of skin cell turnover
How long does it take to recover from a chemical peel?
It depends on the formulation of the peel and its intensity, as well as your skin type.
Some peels are gentle enough that no recovery period is required, while more intense
formulations may require a week or so for redness and flaking to disappear.
Is a chemical peel painful?
Generally speaking, peels aren’t painful. More intense formulations may make the
skin tingle and be slightly uncomfortable, but even these are tolerated well by our patients
with all skin types.
Will a chemical peel remove dark spots?
Yes, they are effective in removing dark spots and other hyperpigmentation caused by the
sun, aging or inflammation. For lighter spots, one or two sessions may be sufficient to
improve skin tone.
Are chemical peels good for acne prone skin?
Yes. As a matter of fact, peels are routinely recommended to patients suffering from
acne and rosacea because of their ability to clarify the skin and reduce the bacteria that
causes breakouts. They also help shed the damaged layers of the dermis to reduce the
appearance of acne scars and improve skin tone, while retaining moisture levels at the same
time. The best results are achieved with a series of peels.
Can I get a chemical peel after or before laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal are laser treatments that increase skin sensitivity. Chemical peels
can also increase skin sensitivity and inflammation. For this reason, if you’d like to
improve your skin quality with a combination of these treatments, it would be best to
schedule these procedures weeks apart. This allows your skin to recover properly, thereby
reducing the risk of complications.
