Dark under eye circles can happen equally in both men and women. Contributing factors include the following:
- a darker skin tone
- lack of sleep or too much sleep
- eye strain
- allergies, particularly those that cause the eyes to itch and water (like hay fever)
- dehydration
- genetics
- prolonged sun exposure (UV can permanently darken the delicate skin under the eyes)
One of the biggest factors, however, is your age. Older people tend to develop under eye circles more easily. This is because the skin under our eyes becomes thinner and saggier as collagen naturally deteriorates with age. Thinning and wrinkling skin doesn’t provide adequate coverage of the darker tissues that lie below it.
So, what can you do about dark under eye circles?
Dermal fillers are designed to plump up the skin and restore collagen production. They essentially thicken the skin, so that there is more coverage of the darker tissues below. Dr. Jaffer uses fillers that have a small particle size so that results look more natural, such as Belotero.
And since we’re talking about the under eye area, Dr. Jaffer can also smooth out the tear troughs.
Yes, the solution is that easy!
