Are Laser Hair Removal Results Permanent?
Maybe you don’t like shaving, or just don’t have the time to do it regularly. Perhaps you have hair in unwanted places, such as on your back. Whatever the reason, every year Vancouver residents seek out Dr. Jaffer’s team at Heights Laser Centre for laser hair removal. But how long do the results last? The good news is that after you’ve completed your full series of recommended treatments, most patients find that their unwanted hair is gone for good!*
How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?
Laser hair removal is an exciting development in the medical spa arena. Let’s face it; when you tweeze, wax or thread, the hair keeps growing back. Plus, these traditional hair removal processes can cause discomfort for patients, keeping some from ever having the treatment performed again!
However, laser hair removal is different. The state-of-the-art lasers we use emit special light beams that target the dark pigment in your hair. When the pigment in your hair absorbs the light, it stops the hair growth process in its tracks. Not only does it destroy the existing hair follicle, but it also prevents it from growing back. During your typical Vancouver laser hair removal sessions, patients will have about 65 to 95% of the hair in their treatment area eliminated.*
How Many Laser Hair Removal Sessions Will I Need?
When it comes to determining how many sessions of laser hair removal you’ll need, every Vancouver patients’ case is unique. Some patients have darker hair that absorbs more light. Other patients have lighter hair. Some patients have a very thick concentration of hair, requiring more sessions, while others have a thinner layer of hair that can be addressed more quickly.
Typically speaking, the average patient will need approximately 4 to 6 sessions of laser hair removal scheduled about 6 to 8 weeks apart to have all the desired hair in their treatment area eliminated.* If you want hair removed from your face, you will likely need more sessions – somewhere between 4 to 10.* Finally, men are generally at the front of the bell curve, requiring the highest number of treatment sessions within these ranges.*
Are There Any Restrictions for Laser Hair Removal?
If you’re considering laser hair removal at Heights Laser Centre, you should know up front that not everyone is a candidate for the procedure. Laser hair removal won’t work for:
- Vancouver residents who are naturally blonde, as there isn’t enough pigment in their hair to attract the light emitted from the laser
- Anyone who is taking medication that makes you sensitive to light
- Individuals with Type VI (dark brown or black) skin, as the lasers used for hair removal may burn these patients
If, after consultation with the Heights Laser Centre team, it’s determined that you are a candidate for this procedure, you’ll be given a few restrictions that you must follow to a “T”:
- Don’t sunbathe or use a tanning bed for a month before or after your treatment session as doing so may cause you to develop a sunburn
- Don’t have any other hair removal treatments before your laser hair removal treatment
